OCEAN CURRENTS! Ocean Currents are horizontal and vertical circulation system of ocean waters. There are two main types of currents which are surface and deep currents.

What causes Ocean Currents??
Ocean currents are caused by gravity, wind friction, water density variation. Another way ocean currents are caused is by the coriolis effect and gyres. The coriolis effect is wind Deflection to the right in the Northern Hemisphere, to the left in the Southern Hem

OCEAN GYRES Ocean gyres are huge circles of moving ocean water formed by the coriolis effect.

SURFACE CURRENTS SURFACE CURRENTS ARE CURRENTS THAT MOVE ON OR NEAR THE SURFACE OF THE OCEAN DRIVEN BY WINDS.

DEEP CURRENTS Deep ocean currents is movement of water resulting from different bodies of water. They are produced as cold, dense water sinks and flows beneath warmer ocean water toward the Equator. This is called an upwelling.

WHAT ARE OCEAN WAVES?? An ocean wave is a periodic up-and-down movement of water. A wave has two basic parts, which is a crest and a trough.

OCEAN CREST AND TROUGH An ocean crest is the highest point of a wave.
The wave trough is the lowest point between two crests.

WAVE SPEED Wave speed is calculated by dividing the waves length by its period. This is expressed by a simple formula……..
