2 Curriculum Overview Overall objectives of lessons were developed for the students to gain empathy and understanding of the plants and animals that live on the coast. Place-based education Making the coastline more meaningful to the students

4 Class Set-up Three lessons designed for 90 minute learning periods Written for a total of approx. 62 students broken into three classes of 20-21 students.

6 Lesson 2 Amazon Ecosystems with Jeff Corwin Ecosystem Review Assignment of Plum Island Organism Research Project Research and Technology Skills

7 Presentation Rubric Habitat: Start large (continent) and work down to be as specific as possible (tree vs. shrub) 5 pts. Niche: eats and does 5pts. Population 5pts. Community 5pts. Consumer Information: Carnivore, Omnivore, Herbivore, Scavenger. Give specific details of diet. 5pts. Food Chain/Web Example: Use Inspiration software to cut and paste a community food web into your slide show. 10pts. Adaptations: Identify whether the adaptation is structural, behavioral, and/or learned. 5pts. Communication Skills- Review your Habit of Learning Communication Rubric. 5pts. Field Study Research- At least one piece of organism evidence should accompany your presentation (i.e. photo, video, specimen, etc.) 20pts. Total Points: _____/50 total points Comments:
