Skill Issues - Sellafield Ageing workforce Demographics of local population Traditional focus on operational skills Change of focus to decommissioning and clean up. Competition and supply chain engagement Long term skill needs - standards

Promote characterisation as a fundamental tool in application of the Waste Hierarchy Waste avoidance and opportunities for re-use and re-cycle Longevity of LLWR at Drigg –To support achievement of above goals we are aiming to increase the number of waste routing and treatment options available utilising supply chain skills How are we doing this? Waste Management Goals in Decommissioning

Expression of Interest OJEU (Official Journal of European Union) compliant methodology for effective supply chain engagement –We want to find out what is available in the market place –Has anyone out there got that skill? Provide an open, unconstrained scope to encourage innovation within the supply chain.

Expression of Interest Provides potential to fast track project development and implementation through targeting mature, demonstrated technologies Allows opportunity to assess the supply chain before committing to longer term relationship Allow opportunities for potential suppliers who are not traditionally ‘nuclear’ suppliers to enter the market.

Implementation To initiate the process, a series of scope statements were written and placed through OJEU The supply chain responses were assessed by a Source Evaluation Board comprising technical, operational and commercial personnel from BNG Successful vendors were engaged via a series of waste processing trials.

Sellafield has significant quantities of lead that has been used primarily as shielding and now has various levels of radioactive contamination present. We are assessing the contamination levels and establishing quantities and locations of the lead across the site. We are seeking contractors to decontaminate / recycle / dispose of the lead and radioactive residues using proven technologies. Companies who have proven, deployed processes and technologies are invited to provide BNG Sellafield with an outline of their processes/technologies and company qualifications for consideration. Evaluation and selection of suitable submittals may result in Pilot contract awards for further demonstration of these processes. Example Expression of Interest
