Grammar Lesson Week 14 End Marks (Punctuation) These notes go into your English notebook

End Marks O Every sentence must end with an end mark. End marks indicate the end of a thought and the emotion or tone of a sentence. The three end marks are: The period (.) The question mark (?) The exclamation mark (!)

The Period (.) The period has three basic uses: 1. To end a declarative sentence: Some hikes can last for weeks. 2. To end a mild imperative sentence: Change your shoes quickly. 3. To state an indirect question. I asked whether the pants were on sale.

The Question Mark (?) Used to end sentences that are questions. Which mountain are you planning to climb? What color? They have four dogs?

The Exclamation Mark (!) Used to end an exclamatory sentence, a strong imperative, or strong interjections. The view from the top is stunning! Breathtaking!

Practice O P. 656, exercise 1 O P. 657, exercise 2
