2 2 Objectives Understand importing and exporting. Import data from other applications. Export data to other applications. Import and export using XML.

3 3 Terms Used in This Lesson Exporting: Placing data from one program into another. Importing: Bringing information from one program into another. OfficeLinks: A feature in Microsoft Office, you can export an Access table, query form, or report to Word or Excel. XML: Extensible Markup Language. A universal format that allows for data transfer, especially for data on the Web.

4 4 Importing and Exporting Importing refers to bringing information into the Access program from another program. You can bring data from other programs into Access. Once data is imported into Access, it may be treated as any other data. Exporting refers to placing Access data into another program or into another Access database.

9 9 Copy and Paste You can also copy and paste (or drag and drop) information between Microsoft Office programs without using wizards. This feature is simply keeping in line with Microsoft’s increased efforts for compatibility among its programs.

10 10 Export Data as XML Save an Access table as XML and then the data may be shared online. XML (Extensible Markup Language) is a sharable data format. It allows an exchange of data between different types of systems

11 11 Summary Importing refers to bringing data from one Access database or application into another. The Import Wizard takes you step by step through the process of importing data. Exporting data from Access is easily done by using the File, Export option.

12 12 Summary (cont.) You may also export data using the OfficeLinks button found on the Standard toolbar. XML lets you import data into Access and export Access data as an XML document for shared use on the Web.
