2 ROTARY GRANTS | 2 ROTARY IS…  The beginning…  The first Rotary club was organized in 1905, by Paul P. Harris  The club, with four members, met in rotation at the offices of the members – thus the name Rotary  There are approximately 1.2 million members in the over 30,000 clubs worldwide  Our motto: “Service above self”

3 ROTARY GRANTS | 3 SERVICE ABOVE SELF  Rotary was not long to recognize that fellowship alone would not keep a group together – there needed to be a purpose  The first service project was public restrooms in downtown Chicago, IL  The world’s first service club!

4 ROTARY GRANTS | 4 GUIDING PRINCIPLES  The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service  High ethical standards: worthiness and dignifying of all occupations  Application of the ideal of service to personal, business and community life  Advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a united fellowship

5 ROTARY GRANTS | 5 ROTARY STANDARD OF EXCELLANCE: “THE FOUR WAY TEST”  Of the thing we think, say, or do…  Is it the TRUTH?  Is it FAIR to all concerned?  Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?  Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

6 ROTARY GRANTS | 6 ROTARY: THE FOUR AVENUES OF SERVICE  Club Service: Those things that a Rotarian does to help make the running of the local club successful  Vocational Service: The promoting of the “ideal of service” throughout the business and professional world  Community Service: Urges every Rotarian to participate in all activities that make the community a better place in which to live  International Service: Encourages and fosters the advancement of understanding and good will among people of the world

7 ROTARY GRANTS | 7 THE LEVELS OF ROTARY  ROTARY INTERNATIONAL  30 and above  ROTARACT  18-30 age group  ROTARY INTERACT  12-18 age group

8 ROTARY GRANTS | 8 HOW CAN YOU PARTICIPATE?  Become one of the founding members of the NNHS Rotary Interact Club  Brainstorm ways to get involved and improve your school and community  Carry out two service projects per years: one that helps NNHS or your community and one that promotes international understanding

9 ROTARY GRANTS | 9 HOW WILL IT HELP YOU?  Resume/college application builder  Strong set of ethics  Networking  Belonging to an International community  Youth exchange program  Scholarships  Develop leadership skills
