An alternative title for this article could be: Protecting Precious Baby Please provide two details from the text that support the title above. (SBAC STYLE)

 A.  A good alternative title for this article could be Protecting Precious Baby. The article is all about how to keep babies safe. One thing you can do to protect a child is to not “let a young child play with marbles or plastic toys” since these are small enough to swallow and choke a baby. Also, crib slats should be “spaced no more than two-and-one-half inches apart” so a baby can’t get his head stuck between them. Finally, you should never cover a crib with plastic since “a baby could grab it and pull it over his face” which could cause suffocation. An alternative title for this article could be: Protecting Precious Baby Please provide two details from the text that support the title above. (SBAC STYLE)

 The answer has all the elements --- all seven things represented.  So – it would be a TWO if we were scoring it.

B. A good alternative title for this article is Protecting Precious Baby. Babies get into all sorts of things like “buttons, beads, pins, screws, or anything small”. Also, babies like to put things in their mouths. “Look out for anything small enough to fit in the infant’s mouth.” Finally, “avoid toys that come apart easily” because they can have small parts. All these details prove Protecting Precious Baby is a good title.

 The examples given were basically all the same.  All about putting things in mouth.  Doesn’t tie back --- like why does a button cause trouble if baby puts in mouth?

C. Protecting Precious Baby is an excellent alternative title for this article. Many things in a home can harm babies like “small objects can get lodged in the throat and cut off the child’s air supply.” Also, parents have to be careful and never “let a child chew on balloons.” Finally, parents should always follow the rule that advises when putting “a child down on the floor to play, check the floor carefully.” An alternative title for this article could be: Protecting Precious Baby Please provide two details from the text that support the title above. (SBAC STYLE)

 Has all three, accurate quotes…but no tie back.  Ex: WHY not let a baby chew on a balloon?  Ex: When I put a baby down on floor, WHAT am I supposed to check carefully? Color of the carpet, dust….?

D. Yes, that would be a good alternative title. Babies should never be left in a crib that has spaces “more than two-and-one-half inches apart” so they won’t get hurt. They can also get hurt if they play with “plastic toys”. Finally, parents should never buy “stuffed animals or dolls with tiny button eyes or ornaments” so that babies do not get hurt from these dangerous toys. Clearly, there are a lot of dangers in the world for babies.

 Didn’t restate the question  It would score a ZERO – I don’t know what the person is answering.  Even if the quotes are accurate and tied back…tied back to what?  Also – WHAT IS IT about the toys, buttons, etc…why would they hurt a baby? No tie-back/explanation.

E. First, one thing you can do to protect a child is to not “let a young child play with marbles or plastic toys” since these are small enough to swallow and choke a baby. Also, crib slats should be “spaced no more than two-and-one-half inches apart” so a baby can’t get his head stuck. Finally, you should never cover a crib with plastic since a baby and pull it over his face” which could cause suffocation. An alternative title for this article could be: Protecting Precious Baby Please provide two details from the text that support the title above. (SBAC STYLE)

 Did not restate – same as the last slide --- proving what?  It DOES do a good job of tying back (Ex: plastic = suffocation)  Still would be a zero, even though a lot of it was correct…

F. Always being protective of a baby is an excellent idea. So, Protecting Precious Baby would be a good alternative title for the article. In paragraph two, the author says, “the infant’s head could easily get caught” so parents should make sure crib slats are 2 and ½ inches or less apart so the head won’t fit through any slats. Also, paragraph four states to “look out for anything small enough to fit in the infant’s mouth”. This is because things like buttons or small objects could get stuck in a baby’s throat and the baby might stop breathing or choke. Finally, babies should never be left near plastic. The plastic could “cling to his mouth and nose, cutting off his air supply.”

 TWO  Had all the required elements

An alternative title for this article could be: Protecting Precious Baby Please provide two details from the text that support the title above. (SBAC STYLE) G. Protecting Precious Baby is excellent alternative title for the Safety First article. First of all, babies can hurt themselves easily. “Buttons, beads, pins, screws, or anything small.” These can cause choking if a baby puts any of those in his mouth. Also, small items could cause choking by “cutting off his air supply.” A baby might bit off a piece of balloon so “never let a child chew on balloons.” Choking hazard. No balloons.

 Incomplete sentences  Has three examples and talks about that these things (ex: buttons) could cause choking. BUT – only talks about choking three times…probably should be more diverse in examples…  (we will work on that later….for now --- incomplete sentences was the part that was really incorrect)
