2. The Rights 1. All children have the right to what follows, not matter what race, color, sex, language, religion, political opinion, where they were born or who they were born to. 2. Children have the special right to grow up and to develop physically and spiritually in a healthy and normal way, free and with dignity. 3. Children have a right to a name and to be a member of a country. 4. Children have a right to special care and protection and to good food, housing and medical services. 5. Children have the right to special care if handicapped in any way.

3. The Rights cont. 6. Children have the right to love and understanding, preferably from parents and family, but from the government where these cannot help. 7. Children have the right to go to school for free, to play and to have an equal chance to develop yourself and to learn to be responsible and useful. Their parents have special responsibilities for their education and guidance. 8. Children have the right always to be among the first to get help. 9. Children have the right to be protected against cruel acts or exploitation, they shall not be obliged to do work which hinders their development both physically and mentally. Children should not work before a minimum age and never when that would hinder their health and their moral and physical development. 10. Children should be taught peace, understanding, tolerance and friendship among all people.

4. Bad Some children in the world do not always get theses rights. They are raised into families who do not take care of them. There are three major problems in the world that children should be protected from They are hunger, Abuse, and Neglect.

5. Hunger There are 30,000 children that die every year because they are victims of hunger. Some families can not afford food with the prices. There are 36.6 million houses in the United States that experiencing hunger. 13 million children go to bed hungry every night. In 2007 there were 12.4 million children who went hungry. This is a life threatening situation to children all over the world not just in the United States.

6. Abuse Abuse is one of the largest problems in America. Abuse is the major cause of death. 4000 children die every year There are three kinds of child abuse. Psychological Physical Sexual Psychological abuse includes threatening and despairing remarks from the caregiver. Physical Abuse is abuse that involves a pattern of actions from the caregiver. Examples: hitting, kicking,whipping, ect. Sexual abuse involves sexual actions to a child in anyway. All of these actions have life time effects on all children.

7. Neglect In the United States there are 899,000 victims of neglect. There are four different types of neglect. Physical, Educational, Emotional, Medical Physical Neglect is when the caregiver is not providing the child with basic necessities.( food, shelter, clothing) Physical Neglect can have a serious impact on the child’s development. Educational Neglect is when the caregiver fails to enroll the child in school Educational Neglect leads to the children not learning basic life skills.

8. Neglect Continued Emotional Neglect is when the caregiver ignores the child, fails to respond to child’s needs, and fails to notice the child’s presents. Caregivers Reject the child. They refuse to show affection. Also in Emotional Neglect parents Verbally Assault the child. Constant name calling Caregivers Terrorize the Child They threaten them with extreme punishment They play on their worst fears Caregiver Corrupts the Child Encouraging the child in destruction or legal behavior This can lead to a child’s poor self image Medical Neglect is when the caregiver fails to provide appropriate health care for their child Parents refuse Medical recommendations. Caregivers refuse for religious beliefs, fear of medical conditions, or financial conditions

9. End These are examples of the things children are protected from because of Children Rights. Not all children are lucky enough to be able to be protected.
