3  Henry Middleton was the president of the congress  Total of 56 delegates  Met from September 5, 1774 to October 26, 1774  Met in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

4  England was angered even more, because refused to trade with them.  A second meeting (2 nd Continental Congress) was called due to 3 rd resolution

5  Created a Continental ArmyContinental Army  Wrote the Olive Branch PetitionOlive Branch Petition  Authorized independent colony governments and made a committee to create a declaration of independence create a declaration of independence

6  Created during the 2 nd Continental Congress  Formed from state militia’s  George Washington was appointed Commander in Chief

7  Written because of a desire of peace from the colonists.  Stated that colonists were loyal to the king.  Asked to repeal Intolerable Acts and to restore peace.  King George III rejected it and blockaded American ports to punish the colonies

8  By June of 1776 Thomas Jefferson was writing the Declaration of Independence  After it was debated, it was finally approved and signed on July 4, 1776.

9  Started on May 10, 1775  Gathered in the Philadelphia State House  Began due to Lexington and Concord  Officially declared colonies in State of Defense on May 15, 1775  3 new delegates:  John Hancock (MA) – The president of the congress  Thomas Jefferson (VA)  Benjamin Franklin (PA)
