Please do the entry task to the best of your ability as quickly as you can! THANK YOU!

Geometric Solids – 3-D Shapes A few examples. prism

Solids belong to one of two categories – Polyhedra and non-polyhedra. CUBES and Rectangular Prisms

What is the difference between the two??

A polyhedra is a space figure or 3-d figure whose faces are polygons. Each polygon is a face. The segment where two faces meet is an edge. And where three or more edges meet is a vertex.

Notice that in a pyramid there is both a height (also called the altitude) and a slant height.

Name the edges of this polyhedra. Name the faces. Name the vertices.

The Platonic Solids – Each face is the same regular polygon and the same number of faces meet at each vertex. (Hexahedron)

Group Task – Build one of each different platonic solid. For each write down the total number of faces, edges and vertices. Record them in the table on the board.

Euler’s Formula F + V = E + 2

Cross Sections A cross section of a solid is the intersection of the solid and a plane. You could think of it as a slice that is 0 units high. What other cross sections could you get from these?

Nets – 2-D representations of 3-d objects What solids are these the nets for?

Draw the net of a cylinder. When every one in your group has it, show me, and then you may start your assignment. Page 691 #1-5, 11,14, 18, 19, 31, 39
