 The sun's light contains energy. Usually, when light hits an object the energy turns into heat, like the warmth you feel while sitting in the sun. But when light hits certain materials the energy turns into an electrical current instead, which we can then use for power.

 Renewable since the sun is not due to go out for at least 4 billion years.

 It costs about $1.5 million per mile for transmission lines, according to statistics from Acciona Solar Power.  Conventionally generated electricity ranges between 5 and 18 cents per kilowatt hour (the amount of money to get a kilowatt of power for an hour) but in most places it's below 10 cents, according to the Energy Information Agency

 Solar photovoltaic systems do not require any water to generate electricity  Solar power is sometimes described as a zero emissions or emissions-free form of energy

 Utility scale parabolic and central tower solar energy systems use steam plants to produce power, often relying on water for cooling  There is some concern that these types of systems, when located in some environments, could put a strain on local water resources.

 The clearing and use of large areas of land for solar power facilities can adversely affect native vegetation and wildlife in many ways, including loss of habitat; interference with rainfall and drainage; or direct contact causing injury or death.

 Germany  Germany has a goal of using 100% renewable energy by 2050  Germany is expected to remain the top purchaser of solar panels throughout 2010 and may add 5,000 MW of new solar power this year

 California, Colorado, Utah and new Mexico are idea for solar energy because it would have the highest potential for solar development with the fewest environmental impacts.

 Common types of solar energy in apple valley are Solar panels, Solar water heaters, Solar architecture, Solar lighting, Solar chimney, Solar cookers.  The obvious disadvantage is that solar energy isn’t available during the nighttime hours. You have to have the proper storage system in order to utilize solar energy resources after sundown.
