6 Hormones synchronize ovarian and menstrual cycles
FSH – (follicle stimulating hormone) from anterior pituitary stimulates growth of the follicle LH – (luteinizing hormone) peaks about day 14 causes ovulation stimulates completion of meiosis I promotes secretion of more estrogen and progesterone ovulation test Estrogen – released from maturing follicle thickens endometrium inhibits more FSH.LH release Progesterone – released from corpus luteum thick endometrium Ovarian Cycle Menstrual Cycle

7 Hormones cont….. HCG – (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin)
When estrogen is low – pituitary releases FSH/LH When estrogen is high – inhibit release of FSH/LH HCG – (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) present if the embryo implants in the endometrium Maintains corpus luteum and continues to secrete progesterone and estrogen to keep endometrium intact pregnancy test

8 Secondary sex characteristics results from hormones
Male Deeper voice Beard and more body hair Chest broadens Larger muscles Langer growth stage Female Enlargement of breasts and reproductive organs Wider hips Hair in armpits and pubic area Menstruation Fat deposits under skin
