ADN Program Pre-Admission Assessment Testing

BACKGROUND California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office began to require pre-admission assessment testing prior to program enrollment beginning in 2008.

NAPA VALLEY COLLEGE ADMINISTERS: TEAS version V

IMPORTANT! As of January 1, 2011 Napa Valley College will no longer accept scores from previous versions of the TEAS exam. Beginning Spring of 2012, all persons must pass the TEAS V before admission to the ADN program.

WHEN DO I TAKE THE EXAM? You should plan on taking the exam approximately 12 to 24 months before you expect to enter the nursing program. If you do not pass your first exam, this gives you time for remediation before your acceptance into the program. Do not wait to take the exam until the last six months! If you do not pass the exam it will delay your enrollment another year.

WHEN DO I TAKE THE EXAM? DO NOT attempt the TEAS V without studying the material! Use the TEAS V Study Manual - available for purchase on ATI’s website. You may consider purchasing the Study Manual package that also contains two online practice exams.

You may take the TEAS V exam at any of the approved ATI testing sites listed on their website. Transcript results must be sent to NVC by ATI. If you attempt the exam more than once in the time-span of a year, schools are obligated to accept only the first score. WHEN DO I TAKE THE EXAM?

WHAT IF I DON’T PASS? You must meet with our Nursing Success Counselor to develop a remediation plan. Remediation plan must be completed within one year. Upon successful completion of the plan, you may take the exam again. If you do not pass the exam after remediation, your name is removed from the waitlist and you must re-apply to the program.
