4 D O N OW : Analyze the following statement “As a law-enforcement officer, my fundamental duty is to serve humanity; to safeguard lives and property,; to protect the innocent against deception, the weak against oppression or intimidation, and the peaceful against violence and disorder; and to respect everyone’s constitutional rights to liberty, equality, and justice.” EQ: Do you believe that police officers have lived up to this oath throughout history? Are we progressing forward? Or stuck in the past? Why might this be the case?

7 S PECIAL D IVISION IN O PERATIONS U NIT Patrol : presence on the streets Detectives : investigates serious crimes; rape, murder, robbery, homicide, etc. Traffic : enforce traffic laws, accidents, keeping traffic moving Juvenile : dealings with young adults-children Gang : monitor gang graffiti, track gang members, infiltrate gangs, patrol gang areas, investigate gang related crimes, keep track of gang communications online.
