Biomes WebQuest Introduction The planet earth is divided into a series of ecological communities called biomes. Each biome has characteristic plants and animals as well as characteristic climate to which the organisms are particularly adapted.

Task Role #1 -Botantist Role # 2 – Zoologist Your job as a botanist or a zoologist is to learn out about the climate and organisms of the biome and to report back to the group. You will create a realistic food web within your biome and create a quiz where other students will answer questions and learn new information.

Through your research you will learn about the characteristics of each biome and discover how each biome contributes to the food chain cycle. Students will collaborate working in pairs to find out about their biome. You will gather information and data, and consult with each other using the resources provided.

Process-Getting to know your biome. Please answer these questions (click on the “Getting to Know your Biome” document linked below) Use the following websites to answer the questions and design your biome. The World's Biomes Biome Research Biome SurvivalBiome Survival – PDF Scanned Document on Wikispace. Biome Summary Food Webs Do not copy and paste. If you are caught doing this you will receive a zero for the assignment.

Questions for Botanists What factors affect plant life in this biome? What types of plants live in this biome? What are generally their adaptations? Choose 4 plants from the biome. Get a picture of each one of the plants. Save the picture to a size that will allow you to fill 4 pictures on one page. Describe the specific adaptations of these plants and their significance.

Questions for Zoologists What factors affect animal life in this biome? What types of animals live in this biome? What are generally their adaptations? What are some adaptations that allow these consumers to survive in this biome? What are the primary consumers? What are some secondary consumers?

Choose 2 primary consumers, secondary consumers, tertiary and quaternary consumers within your biome. Find specific information on these animals. Find, save and print pictures of the animals. Save the picture to a size that will allow you to fill 4 pictures on one page

Create the Food Web With the other member of your group create a realistic food web within your biome. Label the primary producers and consumers, as well as, secondary, tertiary and quaternary consumers. Be sure to label the producers as chemotrophs or autotrophs.

Be able to explain: How do the primary producers get the energy they need for life? How do the consumers get the energy they need for life processes?

Create a Quiz You are going to create a game to quiz your classmates about your biome. Use the link below. Quiz Game Templates

General Questions In addition to the questions about your biome, you will need to include questions similar to the following: 1. Which of the following plants/animals would not likely be found in this biome? 2. What would the affect be of having the primary producer removed from the food web? 3. What would the affect be of having a secondary/tertiary/quaternary consumer removed from the food web?

Evaluation In addition to the library rubric (see document below), you will be graded on your food web and the thoroughness of your research. For the quiz, you will be graded on the accuracy, quality and delivery of the content.

Vocabulary Click on the document below to find definitions to words you will need to know. Biome Vocabulary
