Sinai (Exod. 19) Motivation for obedience (Exod. 19:8, 16-19; 20:18-21; 24:7) Aaron and his sons chosen (Exod. 24:1, 9-10; 29:44; 30:30) Special attire (Exodus 28) Presented and consecrated (Leviticus 8) Great responsibility of the priests (Num. 18:1; Lev. 10:9; Ex. 30:9) Great responsibility of everyone (Exod. 23:20-22; 25:40; Heb. 8:5)

3 Story of Nadab & Abihu Aaron and his sons made offerings (Leviticus 9) God accepted their offerings (Lev. 9:22-24) Nadab & Abihu made a strange offering (Lev. 10:1) Nadab & Abihu were killed by fire from God (Lev. 10:2) This was their legacy (Num. 3:4; 26:61; II Chron. 24:2) They had lost something (Deut. 18:16; Heb. 12:21) Their reverent fear had faded, producing unacceptable actions Loss of godly fear in the heart leads to sin (Psalm 36:1)

4 Noah Had It God gave Noah detailed instructions (Gen. 6:14-17) Noah did all that God commanded (Gen. 6:22; 7:5, 9, 16) He had “reverent fear” (Heb. 11:7) Related to the word “devout” (Luke 2:25; Acts 2:5; 8:2) It’s inward awe that motivates careful, godly living Godly fear is good and necessary Our lives are in his hand (Acts 17:28; Job 12:10; Dan. 5:22-23)
