3 “Reverence” Defined: Vines – “to feel respect for, to show deference to, to reverence; to fear” (p. 532). Strong – “reverence (piety); by implication dread, fear” (p. 33). Thayer – “reverence towards God, godly fear, piety; to act cautiously, circumspectly; to reverence, to stand in awe” (p. 259).

4 Reverence Commanded “You shall keep My Sabbaths and reverence My sanctuary: I am the LORD” (Lev. 19:30). “God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be held in reverence by all those around Him” (Psalm 89:7). “Happy is the man who is always reverent, but he who hardens his heart will fall into calamity” (Proverbs 28:14).

5 Reverence Commanded “that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (I Tim. 2:2). “Likewise deacons must be reverent… Likewise their wives must be reverent” (I Timothy 3:8, 11). “that the older men be sober, reverent…the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior” (Titus 2:2-3).
