3. Highlights of Dalai Lama’s Visit The Dalai Lama came to USF for the beginning of a 16-day, 5-city US tour. At USF he participated in a morning Inter-faith prayer service for 1600 at which he was awarded an honorary doctorate, and conducted a teaching session an afternoon teaching session attended by 5,000.

The Dalai Lama stayed in the Jesuit Community of USF While in San Francisco the Dalai Lama lived with the Jesuits in their community and also hosted smaller groups of dignitaries and followers in the Ricci Room of the Community. A number of the Dalai Lama’s entourage and the U.S. State Department security force also stayed in the Community.
