1 AP Chemistry The Ins and Outs

2 What topics are covered in AP Chemistry? – Chemistry Fundamentals – Types of Chemical Equations – AP Style Net Ionic Equations – Gas Laws – Thermochemistry – Atomic Structure and Periodicity – Chemical Bonding – Liquids, Solids, and Solutions – Kinetics – Chemical Equilibrium – Acids and Bases – Buffers, Kspp, and titrations – Thermodynamics – Electrochemistry

3 Warning: A lot of work! AP Chemistry is an extremely fast paced course. You will have to do the following outside of class: – Homework – Lab Reports – Test Preparation This takes about 5 hours outside of class to complete. There will also be 2 Chapters of assignments during the Summer, during Winter Break, and 1 Chapter will be assigned during Spring Break. Students are always encouraged to join extra curricular activities. However, students that do not prioritize academics should not enroll in AP Chemistry.

4 If this course is so difficult, why should I take it? Scoring well on the AP Exam might give you credit for college. This will save you tuition money as well as going through 16 weeks of an introductory college chemistry course. Even if you do not score well on the AP Exam, a college course will be MUCH easier since you’ve seen the material already!
