Up The Creek

Where have all the whitebait gone? Whitebait are baby fish. They come from the sea and swim up the river to grow up. Let’s look up the river. The river might be polluted (dirty).

The man is washing his car and the dirty water is going into the river. Is this why there are no whitebait? The man should wash his car on the grass. This will keep our river clean. Look at the drain, will whitebait be able to swim up this? When whitebait get to the top of the river they grow up and they lay eggs. We do a test. This water is not very clean.

The river looks very dirty here. The cows are eating all the plants in the river. Rivers need plants to keep the water clean and give the fish somewhere to hide from the sun. The farmer should keep the cows out of the water. This would be a good place for whitebait if there were no cows here.

We get to the end of the river. There are so many fish, birds and insects here. The water is really clean. We look for fish. If all the river was this clean there would be lots of whitebait for everyone.
