Why Call the Elders? For physical healing? Elders’ responsibility is spiritual Heb. 13:17 To pray for spiritual strengthening Prayer of faith will save the weary v.15 The Lord will “raise him up” 4:10, Rom. 13:11 Why anoint with oil? Not ceremonial (Greek CHRIO) but practical (ALEIPHO) Luke 10:34, 7:38, 2 Sam. 12:15-23

The “Sick” in James 5:15 Greek “KAMNO” here and Hebrews 12:3 To be weary as a result of work or struggle This word confirms the true meaning of “sick” in v.14 It is spiritual weakness as a result of suffering The elders come to pray for the spiritually weak (discouraged) for spiritual strength and get him back into God’s service
