1 Guidelines for Tom Clements Award Vision, Innovation, Achievement

2 The Clements Committee Co-Chairs: Rick Raemisch (CO), Bernie Warner (WA) George Lombardi (MO) Morris Thigpen, ASCA Associate and Francke Chair ASCA’s Four Regional Representatives

3 Eligibility Criteria 1.Active ASCA Membership for at least two years; 2.Demonstrates regular participation and contribution to ASCA events and/or projects; 3.Has initiated an outstanding innovation and/or achievement that embodies the vision of progressive corrections embraced by Executive Director Clements (CO). Note: Committee members are eligible but cannot be present when Committee deliberates and are not allowed to vote for themselves. Note: Nominees who receive the Clements Award are not eligible to receive it again.

4 Timing of Nominations 1. An annual announcement that nominations are being received will occur four months prior to the date the winner is to receive the award; 2.Nominations must be received by the Committee Chairs no later than two months after the announcement is made.

5 Nomination Requirements Written—By: Nominee’s subordinates, Governor, Sheriff (county), Mayor (city), or their designee(s). Accompanied by— at least 2 supporting nominations from current ASCA members, or One additional supporting nomination from a current ASCA member if the original nomination is submitted by a current ASCA member.

6 Nomination Requirements, continued The written nomination must include: 1. A description of the outstanding innovation and/or achievement; 2.Accompanying supportive documentation; and 3.The reason the nominee should receive the Award.

7 Determining the Award Winner 1.Committee will meet either in person or via appropriate technology. 2.Committee members will review the submissions and vote.

8 What Constitutes the Award? 1.A full resume and biography of Executive Director Clements, and the circumstances that prompted the Award; 2.A review of the Awardee’s correctional prowess; 3.A description of how the awardee embodies the intent of the award; and 4.A presentation of the particular innovation/achievement that demonstrate the worthiness of the awardee.

9 The Physical Award 1. A medallion, attached to a green and yellow ribbon, symbolizing vision, innovation and achievement. 2. A certificate of recognition with specifics as to the awardee’s achievement; 3. A lapel pin symbolizing the awardee’s achievement.

10 The Presentation Ceremony The award will be presented at ASCA’s Summer Business Meeting at a venue to be determined. The ASCA President will preside over the ceremony and will present the award.
