1 ISAT, No Sweat! 2010 Test Dates March 1 st – 12th Grades 3-8

2 ISAT All Items Align to the Illinois Assessment Frameworks Norm-referenced and criterion-referenced items Stanford 10 format with color Extended-time sessions for all students since 2006 (add 10 minutes)

3 TEST SESSION LENGTH All testing sessions (for every subject area) are 45 minutes long. If time has elapsed and student(s) are still actively engaged in the testing, the students may be allowed up to an additional 10 minutes to complete that test session.

4 TEST SESSION READING 3 Test Sessions – 45 minutes each Session 1  6 Short Passages (Literary, Informational, Poems)  30 Multiple-Choice Questions  SAT 10 (Norm-referenced Questions)

5 TEST SESSION READING Session 2 & 3 will have this format: Each session has 2 passages of more equal length; 10 multiple choice questions each; 1 extended response Each session is 45 minutes long One of these sessions will be a pilot.

6 Writing ISAT (45 minutes each session) Grade 8: Narrative, Persuasive (2 Sessions) Grade 6: Narrative, Persuasive (2 Sessions) Grade 5: Expository (1 Session) Grade 3 – Expository (1 session)

7 Are Your Walls Ready? – The following can be on the walls : Fancy Sentence Starters / Sentences for good paragraphs OK Power Words and Important Literary Elements Grade Level Genres Graphic Organizers Standards, standard, standards Anything except below - as to be up two weeks prior to ISAT – One area is reading – not all over the room – referenced when being taught to. Get rid of the junk on walls – mind clutter. – These cannot be up on the walls: Step by Step “how to” instructions Literary Elements List Rubric

8 Are Your Students Prepped? – Extended Response – have they practiced the format behind ER within a 7-10 minute time frame? – Cannot read the Reading test to anyone (you can read the writing test if it is in their IEP) – Are they familiar with the format of the questions? – Do they have the stamina to read the passages? Practice Fluency at grade level… – Inter-rater reliability… – Have you gone over the ISAT Practice Tests? – Have you used DEA to help you teach?

9 Completing Answer Sheets – Third Grade – The students answer in the test booklet – do not cross off improbable answers like the rest of the grades can do. Answers must be clearly marked. Stray marks in the answer section may count against the student. – Students may write all over the test booklets. Use any strategies that you want with this in mind. – Graphic organizers will only work in organizing the students thoughts – all students must write in space provided.

10 Snacks A healthy snack for all students who are testing will be provided by the school. Snacks will be distributed on Tuesday of the week of testing for the entire two weeks. Extra snacks should be returned to the school office.
