2 2 Summary of current EAB activities The IEEE-CS Educational Activities Board (CAB) concentrates most heavily on working with current undergraduate students in computer science and related fields It also has an arm that reaches out to recent graduates: Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD) The EAB chair, Alan Clements, would like to have stronger outreach programs to postgraduates and students in grades K-12

3 3 IEEE-CS e-Learning Activities IEEE-CS member benefits include access to three commercial e-Learning venues: –Element K – offers a variety of e-learning courses; so far, 20,000 members have used this –Safari Books – provides access to commercial books that you can buy through Amazon; 4600 members have accessed these books –Books 24/7 – provides paid access to a more professional set of books than Safari Books; 68 members purchased subscriptions during 2008-09

4 4 EAB Professional Development Activities EAB is developing classes to help members prepare for the CSDA and CSDP certification exams They’re developing four classes for the CSDA and eight for the CSDP, plus a sample test for each I’ve verified that the CSDA and CSDP textbooks and tests include material on standards

5 5 IEEE-CS Curriculum Committee The Curriculum Committee has recently completed a model undergraduate curriculum in Computer Science and Engineering We are also beginning to develop curricula for grades K-12 and postgraduate EAB has not been closely involved in the grades K-12 computing education activity

6 6 EAB Support of Student Competitions EAB has a history of supporting student competitions We used to have a grant for the high-profile CSIDC competition, but this money has evaporated Alan Clements has formed a subcommittee to explore other types of competitions that we can conduct on a greatly reduced budget
