2 Amy Jo Harrell 2006 Create a home page  Use Microsoft Publisher  Open Publisher  Choose a template or design your own  Everything must appear just as you want prior to saving as html (saving as a web page)  Import all of your pictures, write your text, etc.

3 Amy Jo Harrell 2006 Adding pages  Add any pages that you would like  Calendar, events, etc.  Hyperlink pages to the buttons on the home page  Each one must be hyperlinked individually  It’s a good idea to have added hyperlinked text at the bottom of your pages

5 Amy Jo Harrell 2006 For buttons: Click on the button you want to link Right click on the button Choose hyperlink In the dialogue box choose the appropriate page number of the site you are making so that it corresponds to the page you have in mind

6 Amy Jo Harrell 2006 For text  Highlight the text you want to hyperlink  Right click on the text  Choose hyperlink  In the dialogue box choose the appropriate page number of the site you are making so that it corresponds to the page you have in mind  If you want to link to a page not contained in your web site, you need to select an internet address to type in the box  The address must appear just as it appears on the page including the http stuff

7 Amy Jo Harrell 2006 Finishing the site o Make sure that everything appear just as you want it o Spell check o Picture placing o All the links are active o Use file…web page preview….to view the page as it will appear online

8 Amy Jo Harrell 2006 Saving as a web site  Minimize the window which contains Publisher by clicking the minimize button in the upper right hand corner (next to the x)  If you are saving to the hard drive: Click on my computer Click on the location where you will be saving Create a new folder by file….create…new folder Right click on the new folder and rename it appropriately  If you are saving to a floppy: (most web sites are too large to save to floppy, but it is possible) Click on my computer Click on A: drive (if this is your floppy) Create a new folder by file…create…new folder Right click on the new folder and rename it appropriately  Resize your Publisher window  Click file….save as a web site….  Select the folder that you have created especially for the web site Click save!

9 Amy Jo Harrell 2006 To upload your files  Connect to the Internet  Go to Stormpages.com  If you have not signed up for a free membership, do so. When signing up it may be advisable that you use your username from school so that if you use e-mail with your students from your school address it is consistent. The password is at your discretion.  If you have a membership, just log in  Scroll down to the middle of the page to the text which says upload files  You will be uploading to the base directory (that’s just FYI)  When the ten spaces appear to upload click on the first space where it says browse  Look for the folder where you have saved your website  Once you find the folder, select the first file that appears then open Then…before you click on upload, browse the second space and click on the second file

10 Amy Jo Harrell 2006  Continue browsing and selecting all of the files that are in the folder you have created for your web page until you fill all of the ten spaces available  Click on upload  When it is finished it will let you know that the files have uploaded successfully  Click on upload more files and continue doing so until you have uploaded all of the files in the folder you created for the web site  Just a note: the first page of your site (home page) has to be named index for it to appear correctly. Most of the time it is done automatically, if it does not, just rename it index from whatever it is currently named  Click on home after the server indicates that the files where successfully uploaded  From the home page click on the hyperlink to your page to view it

11 Amy Jo Harrell 2006 Editing your pages  Open your Publisher file  Make any changes that you desire  Minimize Publisher  Click on my computer  Create a new folder (must be a new name, not the same as before, and it may be advisable to delete the old folder AFTER you have finished updating your pages)  Save as a web page just as before to the new folder

12 Amy Jo Harrell 2006 Uploading your newly edited pages  Log in to Stormpages  Choose upload files  Then search for the NEW folder that you have created  Upload all of the contents of the folder  If items have the same name as a previously uploaded item the original item will be over written  When you have finished double check that your homepage is named index. Then click on home and the link to your site to view the newly edited pages.
