Spellings! 13th January Session 1

What's New? The spelling list now how three components There are words that you ALL should be able to spell, words that MOST of you will be able to spell and words that SOME of you will be able to spell The important thing is that you are challenging yourself - you are pushing yourself to learn how to spell more difficult words!

The List You will now be given the list of words that you will be tested on You will have this Skills session to practise spelling the words then next week you will take the spelling test! Can you remember the four step process that helps you to learn how to spell a word?

But why? If you're sitting there wondering why you have to practise spellings and take a test, there are many reasons why! (And I'm sure you know why...) 1. Almost all of the exams and assessments you are taking need you to spell correctly 2. The exams and assessments need you to use a RANGE of vocabulary (WOW words) 3. In your English exams and assessments up to 30% of the marks are awarded to students who can spell ALMOST ALL words correctly

Just a thought... The 'could' words are WOW words (actually, you could argue that all of the words on the list are impressive vocabulary) But, an impressive student will use these words to replace DULL words and make their writing impressive and a higher grade! For example... The main character in the novel is really organised and always plans ahead. OR The main character in the novel is really organised; planning everything in a meticulous fashion.

Spellings! 20th January Session 2

Time to Test! Remember, it's important that you challenge yourself...

Time to Mark!

Next Time... Now, you need to make a note of 3 spellings that you didn't get right OR three words from the list that you would like to use more frequently in your own speech and writing

Spellings! 27th January Session 3

Time to Test! Remember, it's important that you challenge yourself...

Time to Mark!

Time to use the words... Now, you are going to choose 3 words from the MOST or SOME categories and create a sentence in which you use each word For example... Resolutions are always difficult to maintain but it's about perseverance, just keep going with them.
