3. 3 MOTIVATION Supercomputers are being replaced by high performing clusters Familiarize myself with the Linux RedHat Environment RedHat software is very easy to obtain and makes it easier to network and manage a cluster

5. 5 PROBLEM STATEMENT Universities and research facilities have a small budget Employees need an easy and effective way to manage the cluster Need a cluster with the same performance level as supercomputers

6. 6 PROPOSED SOLUTION Taking two desktop computers and combining their resources in order to make a scaled down model of cluster Using cheap or free software to connect the two computers Use low priced hardware to build the equivalent of a supercomputer

12. 12 CONCLUSIONS Managing clusters can be extremely useful in research facilities and universities With the use of clusters it reduces the costs for purchasing high power computers This has been one of the most fulfilling experiences I have had at this university.

13. 13 FUTURE WORK Can be very useful in résumés Having the background of managing a cluster gives me a better understanding of network management Dealing with Linux OS gives me a broader understanding of different computing environments
