3 Physical Characteristics – Europe's Mountains Regions like the Pyrenees and the ALPS benefefit the economy of Europe by providing opportunities for recreation (Skiing, camping, etc.) and mineral resources.

4 Europe – 2.There are places in Europe that are threatened by air and water pollution. Black forest, Cities like Venice, and Rivers like the Rhine, Danube, and the Seine.

5 – 3. Many industrial and transportation centers are developing near mineral deposits in the Ruhr Valley, and the Po valley. (ex. iron ore and coal)

6 – 4.Rivers and Canals Serve as major transportation links.

7 – 5.Europe’s economy benefits from oil reserves in the North Sea.

8 – 6.Europe’s workforce is well-educated. Some examples are the use of industrial and technological societies, and banking in Switzerland.

9 – 7.Europe uses advanced farming techniques (unlike slash and burn agriculture) that allow higher crop yields, fertile soils, and black earth (chernozem)

10 – 8.Europe has a well-developed infrastructure. Which other region has a highly developed infrastructure.

11 THE CHUNNEL – 9.The Chunnel is an underwater, underground tunnel that connects London to Paris

12 – 10.There are differences in western and Eastern Europe’s development because of differences in Europe’s past economies.

13 – 12.Sweden and Denmark have governments that play a large role in the economy.

14 Climate – Europe has varied climate regions: Tundra to Mediterranean Mediterranean Climate- warm, wet winters under prevailing westerly winds and calm, hot, dry summers.
