3 Introduction The lesson is about American Thanksgiving Day. It contains elements such as the date of Thanksgiving Day, its history, recipes for the most well-known dishes prepared for this occasion and the meaning of the Day. The aim of the lesson is to find more informations about Thanksgiving Day so that the knowledge of the United States and its culture will be developed and your skills will be improved. When the lesson comes to the end you will be able to think as American do, and understand what Thanksgiving Day is for.

4 Task You are a Polish student and your task is to imagine as if you are celebrating Thanksgiving. Your role is to analyse briefly differences between modern celebration, and the one in the past. Steps, which you will go through, will make you be well-prepared for this activity.

5 Process At the beginning you are supposed to find the date of the first Thanksgiving Day, and what is more, search how nowadays people count this date. Additionally, check when and who made Thanksgiving the National Day of Thanksgiving. The second thing you have to do, is to become a traveller and move to the past, to get to know the history of Thanksgiving. Remember to take into consideration the pilgrim story. Another step is to look into American recipes and find the most well-known dishes for Thanksgiving Day. Then, as an extra, choose your favourite one and write it down. In the end, sum up all information you have collected about Thanksgiving Day and use them to answer these questions:

7 Evaluation To get A: you must have all answers to questions and tasks you were asked about: the date of the first Thanksgiving; the way this date is counted nowadays; who and when made Thanksgiving the National Day of Thanksgiving; the history of Thanksgiving and the pilgrim story; recipes for well-known dishes prepared for Thanksgiving Day, one of them written down; the meaning of Thanksgiving Day; modern and past Thanksgiving celebrations and their differences. To get B: you might have little gaps in your answers but you still have to understand the meaning of Thanksgiving. To get C: you must have some information, that it is known you have worked, but it is not necessary to know all answers to questions from the last point.

8 Conclusion After really hard work you deserve CONGRATULATIONS! Now you know very well the history and the meaning of Thanksgiving which is one of the most important American holidays. The last thing you can do, is to share this knowledge with others.
