Essential Question The table shows the night time low temperatures for Xenia for one week in January. What is the difference between the warmest and coldest night? How would you solve this?

Essential Question The table shows the night time low temperatures for Xenia for one week in January. What is the difference between the warmest and coldest night? Graph the points and count the distance from the greatest and least point.

Monday, Nov 30 Lesson 5.1.c Integers and Graphing

Objective: To graph integers on the number line.

Integers and Graphing Integers are all positive numbers and their opposites and zero.

Integers and Graphing Integers are all positive numbers and their opposites and zero. Negative numbers are used to represent data less than 0. A negative number is written with a “-” sign.

Integers and Graphing Integers are all positive numbers and their opposites and zero. Negative numbers are used to represent data less than 0. A negative number is written with a “-” sign. Positive numbers are used to represent data greater than 0. If a number does not have a “-” sign, it is assumed to be positive.

Integers and Graphing We can use a number line to display all integers. Integers less than zero Integers greater than zero are negative integers are positive integers

Integers and Graphing Integer and sets of integers can be graphed on a number line.

Integers and Graphing Graph -10 on the number line. To graph an integer on the number line, start at zero.

Integers and Graphing Graph -10 on the number line. To graph an integer on the number line, start at zero.

Integers and Graphing Graph -10 on the number line. Move to the left for a negative integer and right for a positive integer.

Integers and Graphing Graph -10 on the number line. Move to the left for a negative integer and right for a positive integer.

Integers and Graphing Graph 5 on the number line.

Integers and Graphing Graph 5 on the number line. The dot is 5 spaces to the right of zero, or +5.

Integers and Graphing Graph -5 on the number line.

Integers and Graphing Graph -5 on the number line. The dot is 5 spaces to the left of zero, or -5.

Integers and Graphing On a number line, the number to the left is always less than the number to the right.

Integers and Graphing We can also graph sets of numbers. { -4, 2, -1}

Integers and Graphing The temperature outside is 17˚. If the temperature drops 24˚, what will the temperature be?

Integers and Graphing The temperature outside is 17˚. If the temperature drops 24˚, what will the temperature be? -7˚ Start on 17 and move 24 places to the left.

Integers and Graphing Graph the set of integers on a number line. {–5, 1, 11} Do this on your own.

Integers and Graphing Graph the set of integers on a number line. {–5, 1, 11}

Integers and Graphing The data set {+5, 0, -15, +20} shows the number of points Delaney scored on each hand of a card game. Graph the scores and explain what the meaning of zero would be. Do this on your own.

Integers and Graphing The data set {+5, 0, -15, +20} shows the number of points Delaney scored on each hand of a card game. Graph the scores and explain what the meaning of zero would be. Zero would no points gained or lost.

Integers and Graphing The table shows the number of points earned for actions in a video game. Graph the integer representing the “jump over the rock” action on the number line.

Integers and Graphing The table shows the number of points earned for actions in a video game. Graph the integer representing the “jump over the rock” action on the number line.

Integers and Graphing The table shows the number of points earned for actions in a video game. If you completed “touch cactus” and “walk over the bridge”, how points would you have?

Integers and Graphing The table shows the number of points earned for actions in a video game. If you completed “touch cactus” and “walk over the bridge”, how points would you have? -10 points

Essential Question The table shows the night time low temperatures for Xenia for one week in January. What is the difference between the warmest and coldest night? Do this on your own.

Essential Question The table shows the night time low temperatures for Xenia for one week in January. What is the difference between the warmest and coldest night? 9 °
