6 slide 6 67% of Californians still don’t know how to find DV services in their community 75% have never been asked by a doctor if they’re in an abusive relationship. 83% trust medical professionals to help them if they’re experiencing DV. 81% Approve of treating domestic violence as a public health issue why healthcare and domestic violence

7 slide 7 the opportunity With the passage and implementation of the Affordable Care Act: Health plans must now cover screening and counseling for domestic violence as a women’s preventive health benefit. Insurance companies can not deny coverage to victims of DV New benchmarks on DV screening & safety planning Additional opportunities for prevention, intervention, and collaboration

9 slide 9 what we aim to achieve This body of work is intended to catalyze the transformation of the health care setting as a more effective entry point to access DV services and prevention. The focus is on those who are not accessing DV services and are low-income or at risk of experiencing domestic violence. If successful, this approach is one step toward a community integrated service system, with health care as one component and DV prevention as a key outcome.
