2 Open access to information CGR4.MOT014 Open access to biodiversity data and information a. Take full advantage of existing global, regional or national level open access mechanisms for publishing biodiversity data (inter alia GBIF, IABIN, CRIA, among many others); and b. Ensure that species/specimen level data, geospatial data, associated metadata, and information on conservation results are made available through open access mechanisms; … Conservation Commons Motion

10 Thank you! Ability to integrate is key  Open access is Important: Open access to data, information and knowledge is essential to enable effective decision making (conservation of biodiversity)  Building the Biodiversity Data Commons: BUT: the value of individual biodiversity information systems will be measured more by their capacity to be cross-linked and used together with other resources.  Challenges: Been argued that access to information limited by a combination of technology, economics, culture and law. BUT: little effort gone to building the cross-walks between existing major information systems.  This is where the real potential lies…. As with ecology, it is not the components per se which are important, but their interactions….  Only achievable thorough partnerships!
