1 Engineering Integrated Solutions (EIS) Capabilities Overview 2012 An Introduction

2 Engineering Integrated Solutions (EIS) - Organisation Key Facts Engineering Integrated Solutions is an effective and efficient engineering shared service, comprising specialist facilities, resources and staff, across several domains. Our Capabilities are grouped under 8 operational themes Aerodynamic Test Electromagnetics Electronic Engineering Human Factors Instrumentation & Telemetry Simulation & Training Systems Structural Test Systems & Software Safety A real “One Stop Shop” for all your engineering requirements Purpose

3 Engineering Integrated Solutions – Why EIS? We have a wide range of ‘world class’ Facilities and Capabilities; many unique. Our team includes ‘renowned’ Scientific and Engineering expertise. We have the backing of the wider BAE Systems organisation. We have a proven track record in a demanding Engineering Environment. Our Capabilities are now available to the wider market. We operate across the Defence Sector (Land, Sea and Air)…. ….and several other Sectors (Civil Aviation, Space, Nuclear, Transport, Energy) What are our key strengths?

4 EIS - Background and History Provision of a comprehensive Test and Evaluation service to BAE Systems Military Air & Information programmes. Support through all phases of the Full Life Cycle. Provision of all Qualification and Certification data requirements. Significant contribution to earlier Offset programmes. Programmes supported Include: JaguarHawk Typhoon HarrierTornado F-35TelemosTaranis

5 Aerodynamic Test The Aerodynamic Test Capability comprises a comprehensive suite of specialist aerodynamic test facilities with supporting design, manufacture and calibration functions. The test capability can be utilised over a wide range of air vehicle flight envelopes and encompasses such aspects as performance, stability and control, store carriage, propulsion integration and ground environment. The suite of capabilities comprises:- Low Speed Wind Tunnel High Speed Wind Tunnels Design and Manufacturing Capabilities

6Electromagnetics We are surrounded by a complex electromagnetic environment, (mobile phones, base stations, radio and television transmitters, lightning strikes, Wi-Fi, radars etc), all of which can impact a systems ability to perform. Our team has extensive experience and skills across the whole electromagnetic spectrum. Throughout the product/ engineering life-cycle our experts employ the optimum mix of specialist consultancy, modelling and measurements to define the problem The suite of capabilities comprises:- Computational Electromagnetics Modelling Electromagnetic Compatibility Testing Electronic Warfare Testing Installed Antenna Performance Assessment Lightning, Static and EMP Protection Low Observability Testing

7 Electronic Engineering Electronic Engineering can provide a full or part life-cycle electronics design and manufacturing capability. Our expertise includes analogue and digital electronic applications for airborne and ground based test systems, as well as a range of solutions satisfying the requirement to simulate avionic systems in a ground based environment. The suite of capabilities comprises: Avionic Rig Support Electronic & Avionic Design Integration & Test Radiation Qualification Mechanical Design/ DO

8 Human Factors HF is the study of how humans interact physically and psychologically in relation to particular environments, products or services. Introduction of a HF approach allows a system to be used to its full potential by taking into account the users’ needs as well as their limitations and individual capability within that design. The team has expertise in the design, development and testing of various human machine interfaces (HMI). The suite of capabilities comprises:- Displays and controls design Environmental assessment HF Integration management Human error Requirements definition System safety Through life support Workload and situation awareness management Workstation and workplace layout.

9 Instrumentation & Telemetry Instrumentation & Telemetry provides the data which confirms the performance of a vehicle and its systems. This is achieved through an end to end service covering System & Installation Design, Software Solutions, Operations & Support, and Laboratory and Manufacturing Services. I&Tprovides the data acquisition & analysis tools in order to capture all test requirements. The suite of capabilities comprises:- Systems Design & Qualification Hardware Design & Installation Display & Analsyis Software Tools Telemetry Ground Stations (Fixed & Mobile)

10 Simulation & Training Systems Simulation & Training Systems is an integral capability within Engineering Integrated Solutions (EIS), focused on providing an effective Modelling and Simulation (M&S) service across the BAE Systems ’ business and 3rd party customer base. The suite of capabilities comprises:- System and Platform Models Interoperability Data and Scenario Visualisation Terrain Databases and Models Human Machine Interfaces Hardware Design and Commission Campaign Support Through Life Support

11 Structural Test Static, fatigue and impact structural testing provides empirical evidence that a component or assembly meets its design requirements. We have the capability to undertake structural loading of components, ranging from a test specimen in a uni- axial test machine, through to a full aircraft test with every part of the structure being representatively loaded and all resulting strains recorded for further analysis. The suite of capabilities comprises:- Acoustic fatigue Buffet testing Climatic testing Static & Fatigue testing Ground resonance testing Impact testing Shock & vibration

12 Systems & Software Safety The systems and safety software team specialise in the design, development and qualification of high integrity and safety critical software applications. Our experience ranges from a proven expertise in software process design, through the full development lifecycle to the formal verification of software. We also offer expertise in the safety domain including developing safety cases ranging from the enterprise to individual sub-systems. Our capabilities comprise:- Independent Safety Auditing (ISA) Independent Validation & Verification (IV&V) Safety Environment Support Safety Process Support (including DEF Stan RTCA DO-178) Static Code Analysis Tool Validation & Assessment

13 Offset & Industrial Participation Offering  Establishment or upgrade of in-country Test and Evaluation Capabilities.  Capabilities can be supplied as Off-the-Shelf / Turn-key, or developed jointly with the Customer.  Delivered Capabilities include the following:  Technology  Facilities  Processes  Skills and Training  The Capabilities provided support all phases of the Lifecycle:  System Concept & Design  System Development & Integration  System and Airframe Test  In-Service Support  Capability Insertion Options also include:  Access to key specialists  UK ‘reach-back’

14 Engineering Integrated Solutions We have a wide range of world-class Facilities and Capabilities; many unique. Our team includes renowned Scientific and Engineering expertise. Applicable to the complete Defence Sector (Land, Sea and Air) as well as several other Sectors (Civil Aviation, Space, Nuclear, Transport, Renewable Energy) We are ‘Open for Business’ i.e. Delivery of Products and Services to 3 rd Parties KEY: We can offer In-country / Cross-Sector Capability Insertion.
