3 Local Plan objectives Support locally-sustainable development Support development that will maintain or develop new services for the benefit of communities. Encourage development that will support a growing, diverse and resilient economy, which increases the proportion of young adults and people of working age living in the Park. Use the planning system to help deliver conservation and public enjoyment. Encourage development in locations with services Support innovative and high-quality design Ensure the landscape is responsive to change while at the same time conserving and enhancing its character.

4 Main policy changes 1 Housing Increased financial viability of allocated sites Housing target More flexibility for local occupancy New allocated business sites Business/employment Wider opportunities for farming and rural land based enterprises New live/ work policy Wider range of high street uses Clear support for reinstated Wensleydale Railway New flexibility for visitor accommodation and facilities

6 Outcome of Representations 49 responses from 7 individuals, 4 Parish Councils, 5 local authorities and 3 central govt. agencies. The rest were from local and national organisations and planning consultants 164 representations in total. 35 propose minor changes and 62 are observations. 67 are substantive objections about: – Housing target, viability, local occupancy – Locational strategy – Open space protection policy – Barns/conservation levy – Quarrying policy – Caravan policy

7 Next stages Issues/ Options 2012/13 Draft Plan consultation June 2014 Publication and formal representations July 2015 Give weight to emerging policy October 2015 - Submission to Planning Inspectorate January2016 Examination April 2016 Adoption 2016 Implementation and review eg. new housing sites
