The main function of the immune system is to protect you from germs, diseases and infections. To do so the immune system fights off organisms that invade the body. (5) Main Function of the Immune System

Key components of the immune system are The white blood cells in the bone marrow  The white blood cells help protect the body against infectious diseases and foreign invaders (1) The lymphocytes in the bone marrow  The lymphocytes allow the body to recognize and remember previous invaders and help destroy them. Key Components of the Immune System (11) (12)

The primary lymphoid organs: thymus and bone marrow The secondary lymphatic tissues: Spleen, tonsils, lymph vessels, lymph nodes, adenoids, skin and liver (4) What Organs are Involved in the Immune System (3)

To maintain a healthy immune system you should try to: Eat lots of fruits, vegetables and whole grains Exercise for at least 30 minutes a day Get at least 7-8 hours of sleep every night Wash your hands Get you vaccinations Maintain your weight Don’t drink an excessive amount of alcohol Don’t smoke (2) How to Maintain a Healthy Immune System

(10) AIDS  AIDS is a disease that effects the immune system by breaking it down. (7) Diseases Involved with the Immune System

Lupus is incurable but, there are drugs to help regulate it. (9) Type 1 diabetes requires treatment to keep blood sugar levels within a target range. Treatment includes: Taking several insulin injections every day or using an insulin pump. (8) Treatment for Rheumatoid Arthritis focuses on controlling symptoms and preventing joint damage. (10) AIDS cannot be cured but there are medications to delay the symptoms (7) How to Treat the Diseases
