1 Livelihood Basix Inc. Strategic Direction Revised December 2015

2 Vision and Mission of LBI  The vision of LBI is to innovate and implement sustainable solutions that can have transformational impact on the lives and livelihoods of the poor.  The mission of LBI is to partner with local institutions to enable market based development that create sustainable enterprises and livelihoods and improves quality of life of the poor communities, in Sub Saharan Africa (SSA) the least developed regions in India.

3 Value Proposition of LBI  LBI has been established to internationalize and carry forward the legacy of BASIX experience and knowledge built over 20 years in working with the livelihoods of the poor  Basix is an internationally acknowledged and recognized social enterprise working for the livelihoods of the poor. LBI has successfully built on this to make its mark in SSA under the ALPs project  The key learnings to date are that the poor remain in the cycle of poverty as their transaction costs are higher, their risks are greater and their incentives are lower. We have realized that these barriers can be overcome through Institutional Development Services (Aggregation), Business Development Services (Market Linkages) and Livelihood Financial Services (Financial Linkages)  We expanded to Africa under the Microlead Program of UNCDF and ALPs program of SDC and now have a combined 12 year experience in 4 countries in SSA of running long term projects. SSA and India can mutually benefit through the South-South Exchange program  SSA can be at the forefront of meeting India’s food security along with better living conditions and improved agricultural practices for it’s own farmers through market linkages with India.

4 Objectives of LBI for 2016-18 in Tanzania and Mozambique are  At least 10,000 youth (M&F below 30 years) are supported to become gainfully self-employed as farmers or agro/micro- entrepreneurs  At least 10,000 women (above 30 years) are supported to improve their household incomes and quality of life through community interventions  “Supported” means – trained in their livelihood activity, given access to capital and financial services, and organised to be able to deal favorably with markets and support agencies.  In partnership with our Institutional Partners,  GAPI, a major development finance institution of Mozambique  Litenga Holdings, MSK Enterprises and the Akiba Bank, Tanzania and  Basix Social Enterprise Group, and its partners in India
