The Savior Who Comes Is A Rock St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Saturday, December 19 th

God’s Own Son Most Holy CW #17 Verses 1-4 Text: Johann Horn, c.1490-1547 Setting: GOTTES SOHN IST KOMMEN Tune: Michael Weisse, c. 1480-1534

Verse 1: God's own Son most holy Came a servant lowly, Came to live among us, Came to suffer for us, Bore the cross to save us, Hope and freedom gave us.

Verse 2: God's own Son most holy Came a servant lowly, Came to live among us, Came to suffer for us, Bore the cross to save us, Hope and freedom gave us.

Verse 3: Thus, if we have known him And will not disown him Nor have loved him coldly But will trust him boldly, He will then receive us, Heal us, and forgive us.

Verse 4 (Please Rise): Those who then are loyal Find a welcome royal. Come, then, O Lord Jesus, From our sins release us. Let us here confess you Till in heav'n we bless you.

Invocation Pastor: In the name of God the Father, who promised to send a Redeemer to crush the power of the devil and restore us to the joy of His presence: All: Father, we praise and worship you.

Invocation Pastor: In the name of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, whose birth was announced by angels, and whose life and death restored us to the Father: All: Lord Jesus, we praise and worship you.

Invocation Pastor: In the name of the Holy Spirit, who brings us to faith and nourishes us through Word and Sacrament to keep us in that faith: All: Holy Spirit, we praise and worship you. Amen.

Prayer of the Day Pastor: Let us pray. (The pastor says the Prayer of the Day.) All: Amen.

Confession of Sins Pastor: Even as John preached a baptism for repentance to the people of Judea, so we are daily called to acknowledge before the Lord our sins and sinfulness. In his love for us, God gives us the power to repent and to become the children of God.

Confession of Sins All: Father, I confess my sinfulness. Not all my crooked places have been made straight, nor all my rough places plain. With my life, my thoughts, my heart, I have many times said "NO" to you. I have gone my own way.

Confession of Sins All: I have turned my back on you and on those around me. I am not worthy of your love. I am not prepared to receive you. And yet you come to me.

Confession of Sins All: You sent your only Son to die for me. In his resurrection you have given me life. In him I trust.

Confession of Sins Pastor: For the sake of your great mercy, O Lord, forgive us. Spare us the just punishment our sins deserve according to your promises declared to us in Christ Jesus, our Lord.

Confession of Sins All: And grant that for his sake, we may live sober, upright and godly lives to the glory of your holy name. Amen.

(Pastor announces our forgiveness)

Hark! A Thrilling Voice Is Sounding CW 15 Verses 1&4 Text: Latin hymn, c. 6th cent. Setting: MERTON Tune: William H. Monk, 1823-89

Verse 1: Hark! A thrilling voice is sounding; "Christ is near," we hear it say. "Cast away the works of darkness; You are children of the day."

Verse 4: Honor glory, might, dominion To the Father and the Son With the everlasting Spirit While eternal ages run!

The Angels’ Candle Pastor: Today we celebrate the coming of Christ, the Light of the world. The candles of our Advent wreath bear witness to that light, and brighten this time of celebration.

Pastor: The first candle, the Light of Prophecy, reminded us of the marvelous promises fulfilled in Christ our Savior.

Pastor: The second candle, the Bethlehem candle takes us to the place where God gave the world His greatest Gift. Over that little town a bright star would shine, guiding some very wise men to their Savior.

Pastor: The third candle, referred to as the Shepherd candle, was a witness to the truth that the Light of Christ is for all people. No matter how poor or lowly one might be, that light of salvation in Christ envelops him.

Pastor: When the angels sang their magnificent chorus that first Christmas night the light of God's own glory brightened the darkened skies. The Angels’ candle, lit today, still speaks this glorious message: “Come and worship Christ, the new-born King!”

All: And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men.”

Children’s Message

Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me CW 389 Verses 1-4 Text: Augustus M Toplady, 1740-78, alt. Setting: TOPLADY Tune: Thomas Hastings, 1784-1872

Verse 1: Rock of Ages, cleft for me, Let me hide myself in thee; Let the water and the blood From thy riven side which flowed Be of sin the double cure: Cleanse me from its guilt and pow’r.

Verse 2: Not the labors of my hands Can fulfill thy law’s demands. Could my zeal no respite know, Could my tears forever flow, All for sin could not atone; Thou must save and thou alone.

Verse 3: Nothing in my hand I bring, Simply to thy cross I cling; Naked, come to thee for dress, Helpless, look to thee for grace. Foul, I to the fountain fly—Wash me, Savior, or I die!

Verse 4: While I draw this fleeting breath, When mine eyelids close in death, When I soar to worlds unknown, See thee on thy judgment throne, Rock of Ages, cleft for me, Let me hide myself in thee!

There's a Voice in the Wilderness Crying CW #13 Verses 2&3 Text: James L. Milligan, 1876-1961 Setting: ASCENSION Tune: Henry H. Bancroft, 1904-88

Verse 2: O Christians, you bring good tidings; Get up to the heights and sing! Proclaim to a desolate people The coming of their King. Like the flow’rs of the field they perish; Like grass their works decay. The pow’r and pomp of nations Shall pass like a dream away;

Verse 3: But the Word of our God is eternal; The arm of the Lord is strong. He stands in the midst of the nations, And he shall right the wrong. He shall feed his flock like a shepherd, The lambs shall gently hold, To pastures of peace shall lead them, And bring them safe to his fold.
