2 International collaboration is the key to success in Research & Development (R&D) Science was globalised much earlier than business Kazakhstan is a very attractive partner for international R&D collaboration because it has: (i)Long-term strategy for educating young generation to the world leading standards; (ii)Ambitious R&D strategy to become one of the top 30 countries in the world; (iii)Rich natural resources

3 Opportunities for international collaboration Horizon 2020 – the main European Union (EU) research funding Erasmus+ - the main EU funding for education Funding by individual countries, such as the UK (the British Council, The Royal Society, Research Councils, The Wellcome Trust) World Bank Direct private investment

4 Funding targets different beneficiaries: Research institutions Universities Private companies Governmental organisations Individual researchers (human mobility)
