6 The Colosseum The Coliseum, (most commonly known as The Colosseum) originally named Flavian Amphitheatre, is in the centre of the city of Rome, Italy. Colosseum is an elliptical amphitheatre which is the largest ever built in the Roman Empire. The Colosseum is considered one of the greatest works of Roman architecture and Roman engineering.
