Background Prior Legislative Actions: In 2002, the “Dori Slosberg Driver Education Safety Act” was adopted to enhance funding for driver education programs It authorized a $3 fine on each civil traffic penalty (excludes parking fines) In 2006, the fine was increased to $5 Only public and non-public schools are eligible to receive funding

6. Background Prior BCC Actions: December 2004, the BCC authorized a $3 civil traffic penalty December 2006, the BCC approved an agreement with OCPS October 2009, due to budget constraints, OCPS discontinued their driver education program April 2011, BCC approved an agreement with the Florida Virtual School

7. Background Virtual School Obligations: Only for students enrolled in Orange County public, accredited non-public and registered home schools Must be for behind the wheel training Must be for direct program expenses Provide annual performance reports
