4 Project-Based Learning and Arts Integration
Completed with homeroom class Long-term, collaborative, student-driven Semester-long Projects: Louisiana Topics AI: will involve Lusher faculty artist Arts Happening: May 12, 2016

5 Binder & Agenda Should come home nightly with your child
Homework is written in the agenda each day Classwork and homework divided by subject Responsibility; independence

6 Project Pride Discussed frequently with a focus on recognizing positive behavior Project Pride Recess on Fridays Signing the Project Pride Log - Behavior and Responsibility 3 behavior signatures = loss of Project Pride & Behavior Report sent home 3 Behavior Reports = ODR 3 ODR = suspension

7 Project Pride Logs Initial each weekend Sign every 3 weeks
Please discuss teacher comments No conduct grades this year Will be kept on file in classrooms

8 Homework Policy Assignments given Monday through Thursday nights
Should take no more than 30 minutes (not including Reading Log)

9 Test Folders Sent home every Wednesday
Students changing classes for Literacy will have 2 test folders Please initial EACH test/quiz and return the folder on Thursday Every test/quiz must be returned and filed in the classroom

10 Grading Policy 75% Summative Tests 25% Quarterly Benchmark Exams
5 report card grades: reading, language, math, social studies, and science Formative Assessments: “Quick Quizzes” Given frequently Will be checked, recorded, and sent home NOT factored into the final grade !!! Purpose is to track progression of learning

11 Study Folders Folder kept in classroom
Study Guides, Foldables, Benchmark Tests Sent home to study for Benchmark Tests and iLEAP Folder must be returned with all materials

12 Test Retakes/Makeups New Policy – students take retakes/makeups (due to absences) in classroom (Opportunity Room for 4/5 only) Retakes offered to students with D or F on Summative Tests (NOT Benchmarks) 3 retakes per quarter is the maximum Retakes are not automatic Unacceptable examples: did not study, did not follow directions Acceptable: Did not understand a specific concept and need re-teaching

13 Study Skills This year we will begin to focus on study skills with your child Examples: organization, note taking, flash cards, highlighting, using study guides effectively, completing homework We will begin specifically addressing these needs in the classroom Please reinforce good study habits at home

used daily in classroom Builds skill in fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and structural analysis Kid Biz (kidbiz3000.com) Use in class and as homework 2-3 articles each week with questions to answer

15 Dress Code Review the handbook if you have any questions.
The following are not allowed at Lusher: Temporary tattoos Crocs or backless shoes Inappropriate slogans on t-shirts; tank tops or sleeveless shirts or dresses Distracting hair styles or cuts Hair attachments

16 Lunch Money Students should bring their money to the cafeteria
Use envelopes to avoid lost money

17 Definition of “Tardy” School day begins at 8:15
Students arriving after 8:15 will be given an “admit” ticket and be marked Tardy Students must sit in their class line at Morning Meeting - not with parents or siblings

18 Attendance VERY important!!
Completing make-up work is just not the same as being in class Best time for appointments is at noon Wednesdays and rainy days – report directly to homerooms by 8:15

Important school info ed out every Friday Class Newsletter (Literacy & Homeroom): Topics covered in each subject, upcoming tests, important reminders Posted weekly on class website

20 Handbook Located online under the “Forms & Downloads” tab
Communication Policy – response within 48 hours for brief exchanges, conference for in-depth discussions

21 Conferences No 1st Quarter conferences due to late start
2nd Quarter conferences – November 20

22 Field Trips 3rd goes on the BEST field trips!!
Parent chaperones greatly appreciated and needed Your background check must be current Check with Liz in the office
