Creating a Multiple Line Graph photocopies # 47 & 48

I can… Understand the characteristics of Canada’s population and how and why it is changing. Create, interpret and use multiple line graphs.

Year Birth (/1000 pop) Deaths (/1000 pop) 1925 26.1 10.7 1930 23.9 10.8 1935 20.5 9.9 1940 21.6 9.8 1945 24.3 9.5 1950 27.1 9.1 1955 28.2 8.2 1960 26.8 7.8 1965 21.3 7.6 1970 17.5 7.3 1975 15.8 7.3 1980 15.5 7.2 1985 14.9 6.9 1990 14.1 7.0 1995 12.6 7.1 2000 11.4 7.4 2005 10.8 7.7 2010 10.5 8.0 Population Growth in Canada 1925 to 2010 Draw a multiple line graph of the data shown in the table below. Use the vertical axis to measure the birth and death rates per 1000 and the horizontal axis to show the years between 1925 and 2010. Use an appropriate scale to accommodate all the data. Label the vertical and horizontal lines appropriately. Shade the area between the two lines (Natural Increase) in green and include this in your legend. 4 Standard Sheet of linear X linear graph paper 33 boxes 42 boxes

Draw a horizontal line 34 boxes wide - this will represent the x -axis Draw a vertical line 25 boxes high - this will represent the y-axis. Locate the origin at 5 squares up and 5 in

Place a tick mark every 2 nd horizontal square and label these as ‘25, ’30, ’35 etc… to ‘10 ‘25‘30‘35 Don’t forget to identify the units on this axis!

‘25‘30‘35 Place a tick mark every 5 th vertical square and label these as 5.0, 10.0, 15.0 etc… to 30.0 15.0 10.0 5.0 Don’t forget to identify the units on this axis!
