Elena Stefanova – an english teacher : “By learning and reading these books you can see the other part of the English language that lives outside the textbooks. You can also broaden your mind and gather points of view different than yours. It is not just learning new words but also practicing the “live language “.

Milena Stoichkova – Literature and Bulgarian language teacher : “Literature is very helpful to a person whose aim is to learn and practice a certain language. It can support you in finding the character forms of culture which leads you to discover the thinking of the people, their orientation towards the world and their value system. When you are reading a text you can develop your speech and learn to find the metaphorical meaning and the layers of the certain language.“

A bulgarian vlogger and a novice in writing author Emil Conrad has published only one book, but was able to answer our question. According to Conrad english literature helps people learn english by enriching our vocabulary. With every word you read, with every book you finish your vocabulary grows bigger and bigger, he says.

The well-known british author Joss Stirling took the time to chat with us just before the release of her new book Angel Dares, the 5 th in her famous series the Benedicts. Joss’ opinion was I quote: ‘Well, the obvious answer is that wide reading expands your vocabulary and sense of the rhythms of the language from poetry to prose. I'm not sure you can claim to really know a language without exposure to its literature.’

Mr. Nikolai Tabakov is not only a bulgarian author, but also publisher at the bulgarian publishing house ‘Anubis’. Mr. Tabakov’s opinion was: ‘ Literature – if it is – has the quality to deals with the person, his problems, tragedies and eternal existential questions. Very often it is more comprehensive and clearer than other humanitarian disciplines - history, philosophy and so on. If a historical event is not entered in major literary works, it somehow disappears from the horizon. For example - the Unification of Bulgaria. Furthermore great philosophers of humanity - existentialists and idealists all usually speak an incomprehensible to the masses language, including the archaic language of the Bible. Well, then the literature intervene.

She “translates” great human inventions and ideas and answers our questions and excitements. Note: When leafing or read on screen another book, we unconsciously look for our answers there, our characters who bear some of our characteristics, our likes. And when it happens - boom! The man with the book is turn into someone who not only likes, but who starts to love respective literary analogue of themselves or their analogue dreams. Not only. He, the reader, begins to like and memorize expressions idioms, often of slang, but close to his understanding, the ones of his heart. Another example - the biblical version of slang called "Catcher in Rye “ by Salinger. That’s how things go. Sometimes it goes as far as the liked book is transient and the intelligent reader is fully aware of the weaknesses of the translation. And he rushes. Where? Into himself, to his own improvement, to God or to the world. It doesn’t matter. But he rushes with all his heart. Otherwise swotting a language is mechanical operation.

In the opinion of a student in 12 th grade, literature helps us to enrich our dictionary and to be more literate. Also as more we read we begin to understand the meaning of the text. We learn how to analyze it.

Ivelina Baltova is a publisher in the bulgarian publishing house Hermes and she says: English literature is a way for everyone to sample a different culture and expend their vocabulary. It does us only good and broadens ones horizons.

Gina Centrello is President and Publisher of the Random House Publishing Group She shared with us that for her and her company, English Literature is one of the main things in trying to educate young minds. It helps them with their life, their social interaction and personal enjoyment.
