3 April 1775 First battle of Revolutionary War “Shot heard round the world” Only lasted a few minutes British retreated back to Boston and the colonists fired at them from behind trees and buildings

4 June 1775 Protecting territory in Massachusetts Colonists set up camp on Breed’s Hill and Bunker Hill to attack the British Colonists had to retreat in the end but showed that the colonists could hold their own against the British and this was not going to be a quick war

5 October 1777 The British suffered embarrassing defeats in New England and planned to strike back British wanted to cut New England off form the rest of the colonies and attack from three directions but two groups were late Greatest win to that point during the war for the Patriots Led to an increase in foreign support for the Patriots

6 March 1781 Part of British Plan to take over the South Patriot plan was to break into 3 lines and attack in different waves British win the battle but costs them many lives Patriots made them pay for attacking the south

7 October 1781 Lord Cornwallis decided to take Virginia – costly mistake George Washington and French commanders surrounded Cornwallis and British military on the peninsula of Yorktown Cornwallis surrenders and the war is over

8 Great Britain recognized the US as independent New border formed – West to Mississippi River and North to Great Lakes

9 You will create a 6 flap foldable to summarize the 6 major events of the Revolutionary War Outside/front cover flap should have the title of the event and an illustration for that event in COLOR! Inside/under the flap will be where you will summarize the significance of that event to the war

10 Design a coin to represent the American Revolutionary War Should have a front and a back Use color and be neat

11 Create a 6 frame comic strip/storyboard to retell the story of the American Revolutionary War to an elementary student You need to include: At least 2 events that caused colonists to be upset and want independence Either the First or Second Continental Congress Declaration of Independence 1 battle Treaty of Paris Must be neat, organized, and use color Each frame should have color, story line and speech bubbles
