4 Conference Format Lasting from early October through mid-January 3 students at a time during their study hall in the counseling office with their assigned counselor 40 minutes Will be notified at least a week before their scheduled conference time. Postings will be in the study hall classrooms, as well as the Counseling Office Students will receive a folder with materials reviewed in the conference Students need to being their laptop to the conference

7 The Role of a School Counselor… The Counseling office and individual counselor is a resource for: Assistance with 9 th grade Transition Academic Concerns (additional supports, schedule concerns, etc) Academic and Career Planning (courses to take, post secondary options, etc.) Emotional Issues (Depression, Anxiety, etc.) Social Issues (Bullying, peer pressure, etc.) Collaboration with Families & Community

8 Why Students Should Get to Know Their Counselor… Better assistance when they need it Self-Advocacy Skills Letter of recommendation Referrals for employment

9 How do students see their School Counselor? Self-referral Drop in during study hall, lunch, before/after school Referral from a teacher or staff person Referral from a counselor Referral from a parent Referral from a friend

High School Graduation (See Course Guide) Post-Secondary Considerations or Applications Stored for life at Arrowhead GPA Calculations Cumulative GPA = total # of GPA points earned (A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0) ÷ course credits attempted Pluses and minuses do not count in the GPA Calculation!

EXPLORE your options Investigate career pathways and education opportunities PLAN your path Set goals, choose courses, join clubs, obtain financing, write a resume, apply. GO do it. Carry out your plan and recalculate as needed.

23 “My Flight Plan” A students’ individualized portfolio for Academic and Career Planning Accessed through CANVAS (in the Freshman Conference) Shared with parents (during the Freshman Conference) Completed by the Student (throughout the year) Submitted back through CANVAS (at the end of the year) Re-evaluated each year by the student. Parents can set up their own login (on the Canvas site). Arrowheadschools.org > Library & Tech > Online Courses > Canvas

24 Assessments ACT Aspire the first test within the ACT Suite of tests. Aspire Test will be given May 16/17 (10 th Gr.) 23/24 (9 th Gr.). Work hard in your coursework!!! Summer ACT Prep Course (Sophomores) ACT Test for all Juniors.
