8 EUROCONTROL: Structure
General Assembly MINISTERS Council Civil & Military Representatives Performance Review Commission Civil/Military Interface Standing Committee Safety Regulation Commission Regulatory Committee Standing Committee on Finance Audit Board Managing EUROCONTROL As managers, you would probably like to know how EUROCONTROL is managed. We have two main decision-making bodies. Once our revised Convention has been ratified, those will be the General Assembly and a Council. We have a system of weighted majority voting. There are also Standing Committees for the Air Traffic Control Centres and for Civil and Military interfaces as well as a Regulatory Committee and two independent Commissions for Performance and Safety Regulation. An Audit Board staffed by representatives of Member States keeps a watchful eye on our revenue and expenditure. AGENCY Director General National Providers

17 24 Hours of European Air Traffic
The European Air Traffic Situation Let us take a look now at the current Air Traffic Situation in Europe. As you know full well, Europe has a very dense air network. We have seventy-three Air Traffic Control Centres, with over one thousand sectors, and we use over thirty different systems to control over 25,000 flights a day. Nearly 90% of our traffic is intra-European – and 50% of traffic flies for less than 600km. This means that a lot of flights are constantly in the process of descending and climbing, which makes air traffic control very complex.

18 Flexible Use of Airspace Programme
EUROCONTROL is addressing this issue with its Flexible Use of Airspace (FUA) Concept which abolishes the idea of reserving airspace permanently for one group of users. It allows both civil and military users to have access to the airspace as and when they need it. It is an advance in the more efficient distribution of airspace capacity. a
