1 Oxfam ownership Oxfam's trustees The trustees of Oxfam have ultimate responsibility in law for the charity, its assets and activities. They form the Council of Trustees, which is the governing body of the Association of Oxfam (a not-for-profit limited- liability company). They are appointed because of their commitment to Oxfam and their experience and skills which enable them to undertake the responsibilities of trusteeship of a large and complex charity. There is a board of trustees in each country that Oxfam raises funds. This form of ownership suits Oxfam because it allows the charity’s trustees to be elected by people that make donations and decisions can be on a national and international basis as trustees exist in many countries. This suits the size and scale of Oxfam’s organisation. It is too large to be a sole trader and is a non profit making company so other commercial forms of ownership are not suitable.
