2 Gatsby Chapters 1-2 Quiz What is the name of the Narrator? What are the narrators feelings towards Gatsby? Where is this story taking place? Who are Tom and Daisy Buchanan? Who is Doctor T.J. Eckleburg? Who is Myrtle?

3 Chapter 1-2 Discussion 1. How does Nick set himself up to be tolerant and non-judgmental, while at the same time being morally privileged? 2. How does Nick show himself as morally indecisive? 3. 4 How to Create an Opening Question Examine the list of Great Ideas Thinking about chapter 3 choose as many great ideas off of the list that you can that apply to the chapter Ranking Question How or Why Question Generic Questions

5 A Good Opening Question in a Seminar: Arises from genuine curiosity on the part of the leader Has no single or “right” answer (they can not be answered by simply saying ‘yes’ or ‘no’) Is framed to generate discussion leading to greater understanding of the ideas in the text Can best be answered by reference to the text

6 Create an Opening Question for Chapter 3 In groups of 2/3 examine the list of Great Ideas that each person has come up with. Using one or more of the Great Ideas that your group selected above, write three different opening questions for a Socratic Seminar on your assigned topic. Provide a specific quote from the novel that relates to your question
