4 Forshadowing Was a small detail that is used to make a prediction about what will happen later. Many people overlooked her because of her size, but she always showed her strength as the pages went by….

5 Flashback Always interrupted the flow of the story with his background knowledge of what was being discussed. Some would call him rude but ALL benefited from his wealth of knowledge…

6 SYmbolism Always stood for something. Her representation always created positive, negative, and neutral emotions, and much more. No one knew what to expect from her. Whatever she gave it was sure to keep you on your feet and was full of vivid descriptions…

7 Everyday the devices would play a friendly game of “hide and seek” and today was no different. 3 different paragraphs will be shown. Read each one and write which device you think you have located... Ready, Ready, Set, Set, Go………… Go…………

8 Danny remembered more about his mother's death than he'd ever told anyone. The day she had died, she had called each of her sons to her bedside individually. "Pour me a cup of fresh water, please," she said, her voice thick with the Polish accent that decorated her words when she was tired or sick. Danny filled the cup, careful not to splash it on the bedside table. "Now, hand me my lipstick.“ But he didn't leave. He stood in the doorway and had watched as she had swallowed the pills, three at a time, until they were gone. Even now, Danny felt responsible for her death. He looked at his father and swallowed hard...

11 Luis turned his old car onto the gravel road. Dust followed him as he drove across the desert toward the mountains. He usually loved driving down this road at sunset on his way home. But today was different. The road seemed more desolate and even bumpier than usual. He remembered the time he had a blowout and the car spun uncontrollably as it crossed the road. He wiped the beads of perspiration from his forehead and gripped the steering wheel with both hands. Having a blowout had been frightening. He hoped it wouldn’t happen again.
