3 Embezzlement-wrongful taking of property by someone who has the legal authority to ex: an employee writes out company checks for his/her personal gain Shoplifting- stealing goods from a store ex: stuffing things in your pockets before leaving the store is also considered shoplifting. Fraud- a person or business engages in a form of deception to obtain money or property There is two types Mail- using the USPS to commit fraud ex. Sending phony checks, credit card apps. Etc. Wire- using telephone/ other electronic communications, internet, to commit fraud ex. Hacked internet banking accounts, “Nigerian” or “419”

4 Money Laundering- when large amounts of money are obtained illegally and is hide so it seems legal. ex. Hairstylist receives cash payment. She receives money illegally but there is no proof. It seems “legal” Arson- destroying our own property to collect insurance ex. Starbucks owner is going bankrupt. The owner burns it down to collect the insurance money Forgery- placing a false signature on a check or other document to deceive them in taking their property. ex. Copying someone's signature on a Power of Attorney

5 CRIMES AGAINST SOCIETY

6 Disorderly Conduct- an activity that threatens to disrupt the social order. ex. Public drunkenness, disturbance of the peace, fighting, obstructing traffic, extremely obscene or abusive language, etc. Rioting- group of people who threaten to harm people or to damage property. ex. Race riots, New York Draft Riot, etc.

7 MOTOR VEHICLE VIOLATIONS

8 Drag Racing- racing 2 vehicles side by side ex. Car race Joyriding- taking a vehicle without the owner’s permission ex. Stealing a car overnight and returning it in the morning
